Disclaimer: this is not
a movie review.
I want to tell you
first and foremost about this blog entry, this is not a review about the famous
movie series. I just wrote this entry just to express what I feel after
watching the movie series.
I first heard about
this movies when I was still in high school, I paid no attention of it, because
I thought that it was just another typical, cliché movie series. But when I got
to college, I have these close friends that keep on talking and mumbling about
the said movie series, I thought to myself, dude!
Get a grip, the series is ages old now. They keep on talking about the
spells, those wingarduim leviosa, stupefy, avara kedavra (which is the deadliest spell in the movie) which I think they get
from the movie. So, I thought that maybe this is some kind of wizards and
witchcraft kind of movie. They keep on telling me that the movie is
astonishing, a must-watch they say when there is one time that I asked them
what the movie is all about. They keep on talking things that came from the
movie that only a Potterhead can
understand. I wonder, how beautiful is the movie that they can’t get their heads
out of it.
Years past, when I was
about to graduate from college, I have this major subject in literature, which
talks about the works of some famous authors. And the authors of the 21st
century was assigned to me for discussion. As I research about these famous
authors, I came across with J.K. Rowling the
author of the famous movies series. I got curious, so, I make a thorough
research about her, and found out that she developed the idea of Harry Potter when she was delayed on a
train from Manchester to London in 1990. So, those 7 book series was just came
out of the blue when she was on train? Which is why the train became one of
those key elements that can be seen in the movie, (The Hogwarts Express) amazing isn’t it? I also found out that she
was rejected by 12 publishing houses to be exact when she decided to publish
her novel in 1995. But all of it was wiped away when a certain publishing house
which called Bloomsbury, a publishing
house in London gave her a green light with the help of editor Barry Cunningham.
And the rest is history. Now, let’s talked about the movie series…
So, I heard that the
movie series is astounding, and I thought that might as well give it a chance
to prove it. I was thinking to read the novels first before watching the movies
so, I can compare the difference between the film and the written one. This is
what I do when I want to watch some film which was based from some novels, I read
the novels first before watching the film. The advantage when you will first
read the novel before watching the motion picture is that, you can get a grip
of all the emotions that can’t be seen in the movie, and some scenes that are
not included in the film but can be read in the novels. I can say that the book
is way more detailed from what you will saw in the film; from the emotions of
the characters that are involved, to the tiniest details.
But, college life was a
little bit of harsh on me. I was so busy with my academics, that I don’t have
the leisure of time to read books. I thought to myself, why not watch the movies first before reading the novels, for a change?
So, yeah, that’s what I did. I was so aching to read or watch the film
because I keep hearing the fuss about Harry Potter from my friends. That’s why,
last month, I took the risk on watching the films first before reading the
series. This is my first time on doing such, that’s why it’s quite memorable
for me.
After years of just
hearing some hearsay about the film, I finally did watch it. I watch the 8
films for just a span of a week. Yes, all 8 of it. I can really guarantee that
it can really get you hooked. It can hooked you from the very first installment
of the film through its last installment. From the characters, to the setting, and the plot twist,
MAGNIFICENT! (Was I over reacting? Whatever, but yeah, the film and the story
line is so good) now, I understand why my friends can’t really get their heads
out of this film.
I’m trying my best not
to give some spoiler about the film for those who haven’t watch it yet. But I will
just give a brief sentences about what happen in the film.
There are those moments
that I didn’t see coming. Like the death of the Headmaster of the Hogwarts
which plays a significant character on the film and in the novel. Also, on the
third novel, which is The Prisoner of
Azkaban, the prisoner that they feared turned out to be Harry’s Godfather
and the best friend of his father. I also thought from the very beginning of
the film that Professor Snape was the bad guy, but in the last chapters of the series,
he turns out to be the one protecting Harry from the enemy, because he was in
love to Lily Potter, Harry’s mother. (Maybe I will stop right there, I don’t
want to spoil some important happenings in the film.)
